Lumbar Disc Bulge

A lumbar herniated disc can be an extremely painful cause of low back and leg pain, caused by irritation, inflammation and pressure on nerve roots. Symptoms may vary from moderate pain in the back and buttock to widespread numbness and weakness which require urgent medical attention. Pressure on the sciatic nerve can arise form a bulged disc in the low back, sending pain, numbness and weakness down the leg, also known as sciatica. A chiropractor will examine your spine and perform orthopaedic tests to determine if a disc bulge is the cause of your pain. With the appropriate chiropractic treatment, recommendations and specific exercises, a chiropractor can help to relieve your symptoms.

Note: Although a disc herniation is often painful, research has also found it is common for people to have disc bulges in their lumbar spine, with no associated pain or symptoms.
